Bringing it together

See how groundwork carries into riding, from Carpe Diem’s hind-leg pathway to Dolce Vita’s shoulder and contact.
Connecting the work, one small step at a time
The season-three finale brings the work from the ground and the truck into riding. With Alizée Froment, Tristan revisits Carpe Diem’s tendency to rely on his forehand and lose awareness of his hind legs. The same pattern appears in different situations.
Rather than ask for more energy, they work on a consistent hind-leg pathway: from point A to point B. The whip’s touch is a sensory cue to help Carpe Diem feel where his leg is going, not a way to push him into movement. They reduce the touch and repeat from the voice alone, giving him time to recognise and maintain that connection.
With Dolce Vita, the focus shifts to her shoulders and contact under saddle. Her powerful hind legs can drive into a front end that holds for stability. They explore shoulder positioning and slower transitions to give her room to organise her balance, rather than continually adjusting the feeling in the reins.
When Alizée tries the neck rope, Dolce Vita’s attention appears to move away from her head and towards her shoulders. They observe more freedom and a different canter, then explore carrying that feeling back to the bridle. Could neck rope to bridle be a useful direction for this horse? It remains a question from this session, not a prescription for every horse. Watch the full episode for the context and the small connecting steps.
